We have some really exciting news to share with you. In 2024, Cypher1 will be available as a cloud based service.
SEC will be offering the option to use Cypher1 as a PC based software system or a cloud based service (or a mixture of the two). Users will have the options to have their data hosted in the cloud or continue to store their data locally on their own servers.Any changes made in the cloud system will appear instantly in the Cypher1 system and vice versa.
Not only will this be a game changer in the electrical estimating software industry but will also provide some massive advantages for users.
In this blog post, we’ll delve into the key advantages of software in the cloud compared to PC-based software.
Accessibility and Flexibility:
- Cloud-based software offers unparalleled accessibility and flexibility. Users can access their applications and data from any internet-connected device, breaking down geographical barriers. This is especially beneficial for remote workers, allowing them to work seamlessly from different locations without the need to transfer files or carry a specific device. Whether it’s a laptop, tablet, or even a smartphone, users can pick up where they left off, increasing productivity and collaboration.
Scalability:
- Cloud-based software is highly scalable, catering to the varying needs of businesses and individuals. Unlike traditional PC-based software that often requires manual updates and installations, cloud solutions can be easily scaled up or down based on demand. This ensures that resources are allocated efficiently, preventing wastage of hardware and software licenses.
Cost-Efficiency:
- Cloud-based software eliminates the need for extensive hardware purchases and maintenance. With PC-based software, you’re responsible for acquiring and maintaining the necessary hardware and infrastructure to run the applications effectively. In contrast, cloud-based software operates on the subscription model, reducing upfront costs and allowing businesses to pay for only the resources they use. This cost-efficient approach is particularly appealing to startups and small businesses with limited budgets.
Automatic Updates and Maintenance:
- Gone are the days of manual software updates and maintenance tasks. Cloud-based software providers handle these tasks seamlessly in the background. This ensures that users always have access to the latest features, security patches, and improvements without interrupting their workflow. In contrast, PC-based software often requires users to actively seek and install updates, leading to potential security vulnerabilities.
Data Security and Backup:
- Cloud-based software providers invest heavily in security measures to protect users’ data. Data is stored in secure data centers with robust encryption and multi-layered security protocols. In the event of a hardware failure or other issues, data is typically backed up automatically, reducing the risk of data loss. This level of security and backup is more challenging to achieve with PC-based software, where responsibility for data protection largely falls on the user.
Environmental Impact:
- Cloud-based software has a smaller environmental footprint compared to PC-based software. With cloud computing, resources are pooled and used more efficiently, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. In contrast, traditional PC-based software often requires more energy-intensive hardware setups, contributing to higher energy consumption and e-waste.
In conclusion, the advantages of Cypher1 software in the cloud over a PC-based software version are undeniable. The cloud offers unmatched accessibility, scalability, and cost-efficiency, while also addressing collaboration, data security, and environmental concerns. As technology continues to evolve, more businesses and individuals are recognizing the value of embracing cloud-based software solutions to streamline their operations and stay ahead in a competitive digital landscape.
We already have some Apps and cloud based Add Ons to the existing Cypher suite, namely: Web Worker; Web Timesheets and Web Customer.
Web Customer: Not only will it allow the Engineers hours to be input but also any Materials used can be accounted for here, as can Travel Time, Distance. Lodging Costs and Fares. On demand, the Timesheets can be downloaded to a separate ‘holding’ area in Cypher, where final checks can be made.
One click then posts the data to the relevant Costings.
Again, a simple to use browser based feature that requires little set up, in fact none (again) required here as its reading live data from your Cypher!
This will allow your Customers to have real time data regarding your Appointments (see also Web Worker III) and Jobs that you have with them.
You can upload PDF’s and Photo’s to the Costing, whether it be Certificates or Invoices or ‘before & after’ pics.
Web Customer: Provides a private Portal for your Customers to be able to monitor Appointments (upcoming Jobs) and Job Costings, for them, live on your Cypher!
